Impermanence

This is a place for me to post daily images - very few of these are final images, meaning there is almost always more work to be done. Final Images are here.

Super cool

Maybe it goes back to two summers ago when I was in Bilbao Spain, sick, having a great time and a miserable time wandering around Bilbao and spending a bunch of time starring at Gehry’s masterpiece of architecture, the Guggenheim in Bilbao. When I was looking down from one of the vistas in the building I could see a storage spot where there was a tone of Richard Serra sculptures all tucked in together waiting to be installed. I wanted to see the sculptures; I wanted to understand them I’d seen pictures of them but it just looked like big bits of metal. Then I got excited when I herd that Richard Serra was going to be featured in the Seattle Sculpture park. I again saw the pieces being partially installed there, and it was exciting and I was happy. When the Serra sculptures were really up I reveled in them. I liked the feel, I like the visuals up close and from far away, the whole package. I get to walk by them every week day walking to coffee, and from the 5th floor of the building next to the park. Then I planned a trip to New York and looking at the exhibits that were in the museums while I was there I was ecstatic that there was going to be a Richard Serra retrospective. Then it ended up that it was going to end 10 days before I was going to be there, so I was saddened. When we were at MOMA oddly there were still signs up for the Serra show, the main show of the huge sculptures was up and open, it was only the smaller display of drawings and such that had closed. Funny that looking at these huge amazing sculptures, that were better than I could have imagined only took about 30 minutes. It was very interesting. Walking home from dinner at L’Atelier Joel Robuchon and there were the sculptures sitting on 5th Ave on flatbed trucks ready to be shipped off. Walking around and running into those seemed amazing. I tried hard to get a photo that I liked, but none of them turned out the way I wanted. But seeing them, and touching them was great. It made my day. I keep telling people about it and they all sort of look at me and shrug.
I’m still amazed by it, and I keep thinking about it.

just text

Last night I was in bet before 10, my head was pounding and I was exhausted. This morning I woke up with Bella pacing around the bedroom and wanting to go out, so at 5 AM I let her out and stood outside in the dampness, it felt great. Not chilly, just a dense sense of wet from the on off rain. Back in bed I tossed and turned, checked mail on my phone, tried to decide to get out of bed or to stay in bed. I had a nice vision of having a pot of tea and a big bowl of cereal, while working from home for a while. But I’d already missed a day of work from travel then worked from home on another one, it seemed that work was calling. On the way in to work I had a funny, very early conversation with Bret about life and work and all sorts of things. He was heading to the airport trying to make a flight home to California that left in 20 minutes… Then came the short walk to work, now sitting at my desk, waiting for a script to run, drinking my tea, eating my cereal and wondering how early I can leave, what I have to do today, and if I’ll feel well enough today to make it to yoga. I’m not sure why any of this seemed worthwhile to write down, but there was a pleasant flow to going through it this morning, and I liked that.

Bella needs training

While in new york I got a call from the kennel saying that Bella had bitten two different handlers, not badly, no injuries, but she still bit them.
Usually they love her too, cause, you know, she is a big sweetheart. They had her work with a trainer which is supposed to stress out little doggy brains and make them easier to deal with. Now I also have a bunch of training to do with Bella. Bells gets stressed when I leave her, and she has collar touching issues from being a stray. So it's a bit freaky. But in the mean time, she is on the sofa behind me, very knocked out form a tiring weekend. Later it's training hour for her...

$300 lunch

300 dollars for lunch is rough, sure I’ve spent that much on lunch before, only twice actually, French Laundry and L’Arpege, but this was a lunch that was supposed to save me money. I made tuna salad the night before, like a good frugal person, then I brought it to work. I threw the container of tuna salad into my bag, that also had my camera in it. Then my camera attacked the tuna salad. In the short time it takes to drive from Greenlake to Belltown, the tuna juice (yuck) seeped into my camera and all over my bag. I tried drying the camera out, I washed the strap and the bag and everything that was near the bag to get rid of the smell. But the camera remained dead… Today Nikon sent me a bill for 300 odd dollars to un tuna my camera. At least it will be shiny and happy and such, and I’ll be able to take photos with it soon instead of the point and shoot stuff I’ve been limited to lately. And from this I learned that I should put my food in bags before putting them in my bag with electronic devices…
